Mission

What you will drive

Core responsibilities:

  • Provide thought leadership on the lead acid battery industry, including formal and informal ULAB recycling
  • Research LAB supply chain dynamics worldwide and in targeted geographies, including cross-border transportation
  • Work with country teams to complete mass balance studies for Pure Earth geographies
  • Evaluate ULAB recycling facilities, their environmental safeguards, and regulatory adherence
  • Research alternative livelihoods for ULAB informal workers
  • Develop policy and programmatic implementation playbooks for ULAB recycling in LMICs
  • Produce policy briefs based on latest research and programmatic findings
  • Collaborate on research studies and programmatic activities to inform policy formulation
  • Network with LAB manufacturers, ULAB recyclers, trade associations, governments, NGOs, and academia
  • Coordinate with partner organizations working on ULAB-related issues
  • Represent Pure Earth at specific events or meetings

Profile

What makes you a great fit

Required qualifications:

  • MPhil, MSc or 5+ years of relevant experience in Environmental Policy, Environmental Health, Engineering, Chemistry, Economics, Law, or closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience with and deep knowledge of the LAB industry worldwide, including formal and informal ULAB recycling
  • Strategic thinker with experience conducting research and developing, communicating, and implementing policy, preferably related to ULAB recycling
  • Demonstrated experience working with stakeholders in low- and middle-income countries (government officials, industry organizations, NGOs, community groups)
  • Experience with economic analyses related to the LAB industry; mass balance studies experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse, multicultural teams across multiple locations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with fluency in English; multilingual capabilities a plus
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work flexible hours across time zones
  • Must possess valid work authorization for chosen country of residence
