The Anthony Lester Fellowships

Core responsibilities:

• Undertake practical fieldwork project focused on human rights or rule of law for minimum 3 months
• Complete full-time work on chosen project to affect positive, practical change
• Write and submit a short report on the project for publication
• Present findings at Bard College campus at end of fellowship

This fellowship supports lawyers and law students to undertake practical fieldwork that creates positive change in human rights and the rule of law, inspired by Anthony Lester's pioneering work in these areas.

Required qualifications:

• Lawyer or law student early in their career
• Ability to submit a detailed project proposal (1250 words maximum)
• Must provide CV and 2 references
• Available to begin fellowship activities no sooner than July 1, 2026

Compensation and perks:

• $25,000 stipend to cover fellowship costs
• Travel and accommodation costs paid for presentation at Bard College
• Opportunity to discuss work with colleagues of Anthony Lester at the Odysseus Trust
• Publication of project report on programme website

The Anthony Lester Fellowships are administered by the Human Rights Project at Bard College and honor the legacy of Anthony Lester, one of Britain's most distinguished human rights lawyers who pioneered human rights legislation and advocacy.
