Mission

What you will drive

Core responsibilities:

  • Source and edit approximately six articles per week for the weekly newspaper
  • Curate news content from contributing writers, local news organizations, wire services, and community opinion pieces
  • Ensure all content meets editorial standards, fact-checking requirements, and style guidelines
  • Coordinate with the Design Editor on cover features, images, and website content uploads

What makes you a great fit

Required qualifications:

  • Understanding of fundamental journalistic principles and ethics
  • Strong editing skills with attention to accuracy, grammar, style, clarity, and length
  • Computer proficiency to learn and use website content management systems
  • Ability to bring an anti-oppressive lens to all work with willingness to keep an open mind

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with freelance, contributing, and/or opinion writers
  • Familiarity with newsroom workflows
  • Existing relationships with local news organizations and journalists in Seattle
