at Amref Health Africa

🏢 About Amref Health Africa

Amref Health Africa is the largest African-based international health development organization, founded in 1957 and headquartered in Nairobi. What makes it unique is its deep community-led approach across 35 African countries, with a mission to empower local communities to transform health systems from within. Working here means contributing to lasting health change in Africa through programs that reach over 40 million people.

About This Role

As Team Lead for ICARS Africa, you'll lead a team within the Programmes directorate, reporting to the Director of Science - ICARS. This role involves managing initiatives that address antimicrobial resistance (ICARS stands for International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions) across Africa, making it impactful by directly tackling a critical global health threat through community-centered solutions.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day involves virtual meetings with team members across different African time zones, reviewing program progress in countries like Kenya or Ethiopia, coordinating with the Director of Science on ICARS strategy, and developing community engagement plans for antimicrobial resistance initiatives. You'll balance scientific oversight with practical implementation guidance while ensuring alignment with Amref's community empowerment philosophy.
