Duties
-
Oversee workload and research priorities within the organization.

Provide independent leadership in research of national and international significance, participating in the overall planning, development, and implementation of policies and procedures related to the extramural program.

Administer clinical and basic research projects, including clinical trials, supported by the assigned organization.

Actively collaborate in the planning, development, implementation, and administration of research and training programs, projects, contracts, conferences, and workshops.

Establish goals and objectives for the assigned research area and organize efforts to initiate pioneering programs and resolve critical issues involving accomplishments of the research.

Evaluate the recommendations of peer review programs, scientific merit of proposed research, availability and adequacy of facilities, and justification for individual budget items.

Formulate concepts for Program Announcements, Requests for Applications, and Requests for Proposals while ensuring the funded research is scientifically valid and complies with the Institute/Center.

Maintain liaison with investigators, institutions, organizations, and other governments agencies.

Provide guidance and supervision to staff to include the evaluation of work by subordinates, identify training needs, adjust priorities, and hear/resolve complaints of employees.

Make recommendations or counsel employees regarding appointments/promotions and/or administrative matters.
