Strategic Communications Intern

About the Role

Responsibilities

• Research climate and environmental messengers, including validators who reinforce EDF's messages and storytellers whose lived experiences support advocacy efforts.
• Assist the Communications Director in navigating communications and advocacy for Political Affairs in states.
• Prepare a final work product around storytellers/validators and the Hispanic media market.
• Support Political Affairs in writing, editing, research, reporter engagement, events, and more to better understand and learn the role.

This role creates positive change by supporting climate communications and advocacy efforts that advance environmental priorities through trusted messengers and expanding presence in key media markets like the Hispanic community.

Required qualifications include:

• Enrolled in or a recent graduate of a Graduate Degree program.
• Demonstrated interest in communications, research, and political affairs.
• Experience in writing and research.
• Basic proficiency in MS Outlook/suite, spreadsheets, databases, grammar; proficiency in Canva and WordPress optimal.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational abilities, and ability to work in a team setting.

Compensation is paid at a rate competitive with leading non-profits at $20/hour for a full-time (35 hours/week) summer internship lasting 12 weeks. The internship provides high-quality experiences including relevant projects and networking opportunities for those pursuing environmental careers.

The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is an organization focused on environmental advocacy, with Political Affairs supporting its core priorities on Capitol Hill and in states through communications and messaging efforts.
