How to Apply for Staff Product Manager, Software

at Muon Space

🏢 About Muon Space

Muon Space is at the forefront of climate action, leveraging proprietary satellite technology to deliver high-impact Earth-sensing data products. Their focus on GNSS-R, MSIR, fire data, and AICore-derived offerings makes them a unique player in the space industry, offering the chance to work on cutting-edge technology with tangible environmental benefits.

About This Role

As Staff Product Manager for Software, you will own the commercial strategy for Muon's data products portfolio, including pricing, packaging, and SLAs. Your work will directly enable customers to leverage satellite data for climate insights, making this role critical to both business growth and environmental impact.

💡 A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a standup with engineering to discuss progress on the Sim platform, followed by a pricing review with BD. You'd analyze customer usage data to refine SLAs, then prepare a roadmap presentation for leadership. Afternoons could involve meeting with a potential partner about integrating Muon's fire data into their wildfire monitoring system.

🎯 Who Muon Space Is Looking For

  • 8-10 years of PM experience with data, SaaS, or API products in technically complex environments, ideally in aerospace or climate tech.
  • Proven track record of defining pricing architecture, packaging, and SLA tiers for multi-segment data products.
  • Strong fluency in infrastructure and platform engineering, with ability to translate technical capabilities into customer-facing value propositions.
  • Experience with customer-facing data delivery systems (APIs, portals, tiered SLAs) and cross-functional leadership across engineering, BD, and marketing.

📝 Tips for Applying to Muon Space

1

Highlight specific examples of pricing and packaging design for data products, including metrics like adoption, revenue impact, or customer feedback.

2

Showcase experience with satellite or remote sensing data, even if tangential, to demonstrate domain interest.

3

Quantify your impact in previous roles, e.g., 'Defined 3-tier pricing that increased upsell by 30%' or 'Led launch of API portal with 99.9% SLA.'

4

Tailor your resume to emphasize cross-functional leadership and collaboration with engineering teams on complex platforms.

5

Include a brief cover letter that explicitly connects your background to Muon's mission of climate action and data product innovation.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Your passion for climate action and how your product management skills can accelerate Muon's mission.", "Specific examples of pricing/packaging/SLA design you've executed for data or SaaS products.", 'Your experience working with engineering teams on platform or infrastructure products.', "Your understanding of the satellite data market and how Muon's products stand out."]

🔍 Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • Study Muon's current data products (GNSS-R, MSIR, fire data) and their pricing models if publicly available.
  • Read about Muon's Sim platform and how it compares to competitors like Ansys or AGI.
  • Review recent news or press releases about Muon's partnerships, funding, or satellite launches.
  • Understand the broader Earth observation market, including key players like Planet, Maxar, and Spire.

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 Walk me through how you would price a new satellite data product (e.g., fire detection) for both government and commercial segments.
2 Describe a time you convinced engineering to prioritize a feature that was critical for a customer but technically challenging.
3 How would you design SLAs for a data product with variable latency and quality due to satellite revisit times?
4 What metrics would you use to measure the success of Muon's Sim platform?
5 How do you stay informed about competitors in the satellite data space, and what differentiates Muon?

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Focusing too much on consumer PM experience without connecting it to data or API products.
  • Not demonstrating understanding of the technical challenges in satellite data (e.g., latency, coverage, calibration).
  • Ignoring the mission-driven aspect; Muon is a climate-focused company, so passion for the mission is key.
