How to Apply for Staff DevOps Engineer, Enterprise Data

at Radiant

๐Ÿข About Radiant

Radiant is pioneering portable, zero-emissions nuclear microreactors that can provide clean, reliable power anywhereโ€”from remote sites to hospitals. As a startup founded in 2020, they're using modern software engineering to rapidly develop safe, factory-built reactors, with their first reactor, Kaleidos, set for testing next year at Idaho National Laboratory. Working here means contributing to groundbreaking clean energy technology that could replace diesel generators and support critical infrastructure worldwide.

About This Role

As the Staff DevOps Engineer for Enterprise Data, you'll own the infrastructure powering Radiant's internal data platform, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability for systems connecting Finance, HR, Supply Chain, and Recruiting. You'll collaborate closely with the Software Engineering team on shared Databricks infrastructure and manage CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and security compliance for data systems that support both operational analytics and reactor simulation workloads.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve collaborating with the Software Engineering team on Databricks infrastructure optimizations, implementing security controls for the data platform, automating deployment pipelines for analytics workloads, and monitoring system performance to ensure reliability for Finance, HR, and Supply Chain data systems. You'll balance operational support with strategic projects to scale infrastructure for both current needs and future reactor simulation requirements.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Radiant Is Looking For

  • Has 7+ years of hands-on DevOps/infrastructure experience with deep AWS expertise (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC) and proven ability to build scalable, secure data infrastructure
  • Demonstrates strong CI/CD pipeline development skills using GitHub Actions or similar tools, with infrastructure-as-code proficiency in Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Possesses excellent scripting/automation abilities in Python or Bash, with experience ensuring data systems reliability for critical business functions
  • Shows interest in clean energy/nuclear technology and understands the importance of security compliance in regulated or high-stakes environments

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Radiant

1

Highlight specific AWS infrastructure projects where you ensured both scalability and securityโ€”Radiant's nuclear focus makes security paramount

2

Demonstrate experience with Databricks or similar data platforms, especially in environments with mixed workloads (analytics + simulations)

3

Show how you've built CI/CD pipelines for data systems, not just application codeโ€”mention specific tools and outcomes

4

Connect your experience to regulated industries or high-compliance environments if possible, given the nuclear context

5

Research Radiant's technology and mention specific aspects of their microreactor approach that excite you technically

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Your experience building secure, scalable AWS infrastructure for data platforms, with specific examples', "How you've ensured reliability for critical business systems (Finance, HR, Supply Chain, etc.) in previous roles", 'Your approach to balancing operational analytics workloads with compute-intensive simulations (like reactor simulations)', "Why you're specifically interested in applying DevOps principles to clean energy/nuclear technology at Radiant"]

๐Ÿ” Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • โ†’ Radiant's Kaleidos microreactor technology and their unique approach to portable nuclear power
  • โ†’ The company's timeline and milestones (testing at Idaho National Laboratory next year, customer deliveries starting 2028)
  • โ†’ How modern software engineering is applied to nuclear development at Radiant
  • โ†’ The specific challenges of data infrastructure for nuclear technology companies (security, compliance, simulation workloads)

๐Ÿ’ฌ Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 How would you design a secure, scalable data infrastructure on AWS to support both operational analytics and reactor simulation workloads?
2 Describe your experience implementing security compliance measures for data systems in regulated or high-stakes environments
3 How have you optimized CI/CD pipelines for data platforms, and what metrics do you track for pipeline health?
4 What strategies would you use to ensure Databricks infrastructure reliability when shared between engineering and data teams?
5 How do you approach infrastructure-as-code for data systems, and what lessons have you learned from previous implementations?
