How to Apply for Sr. Manager, Energy Market Analytics & Forecasting

at Antora Energy

🏢 About Antora Energy

Antora Energy is a climate tech startup building American-made thermal batteries that decarbonize industrial heat and power. Their technology stores renewable energy as heat in carbon blocks, enabling 24/7 clean operations for factories and data centers. Working here means tackling one of the hardest climate challenges—industrial emissions—with a scalable, cost-competitive solution.

About This Role

As Sr. Manager of Energy Market Analytics & Forecasting, you will own the long-term power market economics that drive Antora’s project origination and financing. You’ll build LMP forecasts, ELCC models, and production cost models to quantify battery dispatch value, and represent Antora’s market views to customers and financiers. This role is critical to proving the economic viability of thermal storage and scaling deployment.

💡 A Day in the Life

Your morning might involve running a PLEXOS scenario to assess the impact of a new gas plant on CAISO LMPs, then presenting findings to the project finance team. Afternoon could include a call with a potential offtaker to explain how Antora's thermal battery captures value in ERCOT's energy and ancillary markets. You'll also review a new state policy and update your capacity expansion model accordingly.

🎯 Who Antora Energy Is Looking For

  • Deep expertise in power market modeling (e.g., LMP forecasting, ELCC, production cost models like PLEXOS or Aurora) with 7+ years in energy analytics or trading.
  • Proven ability to translate complex market data into clear investment-grade insights for project finance and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with battery storage or renewable energy economics, including dispatch optimization and capacity market valuation.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with development, finance, and engineering teams in a fast-paced startup environment.

📝 Tips for Applying to Antora Energy

1

Highlight specific modeling tools you've used (e.g., PLEXOS, Aurora, PROMOD) and include a brief example of a forecast or analysis that influenced a project decision.

2

Show your understanding of thermal storage economics—mention how your market views would differ for a 4-hour lithium battery vs. an 8+ hour thermal battery.

3

Quantify impact: e.g., 'My LMP forecasts improved project IRR by 2%' or 'I modeled ELCC for a 100 MW solar+storage portfolio.'

4

Mention any experience with ISO/RTO market rules (CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, NYISO) and how you stay current on tariff changes.

5

Tailor your resume to include keywords from the job posting: 'long-term power prices,' 'capacity expansion modeling,' 'project finance,' 'battery dispatch.'

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Explain why you're excited about thermal storage vs. other storage technologies—connect it to industrial decarbonization.", 'Demonstrate your ability to both build models and communicate results to non-technical stakeholders (finance, customers).', "Share a specific challenge in energy market forecasting (e.g., handling policy uncertainty) and how you've addressed it.", "Reference Antora's mission and how your market analysis will directly enable project financing and company growth."]

🔍 Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • Read Antora's blog posts and white papers on thermal battery economics and grid integration.
  • Understand their target markets: which ISOs/RTOs are they active in? What are the key market drivers for thermal storage there?
  • Study their competitors (e.g., Malta, Rondo Energy) and how Antora's technology differs in cost and dispatch profile.
  • Review recent FERC orders and state policies affecting energy storage (e.g., FERC 2222, California's IRP, Texas's CREZ expansion).

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 Walk me through how you would forecast LMPs for a new market like ERCOT over a 20-year horizon.
2 How do you model ELCC for a thermal battery with 8+ hours duration? How does it differ from a 4-hour lithium battery?
3 Describe a time your market analysis changed a project's financial structure or go/no-go decision.
4 How do you incorporate renewable portfolio standards, IRP updates, or FERC orders into your forecasts?
5 What's your approach to validating model outputs against historical data? Give an example of a model improvement you made.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't focus only on lithium battery experience—show that you understand longer-duration storage and thermal applications.
  • Avoid generic statements about 'passion for renewables'—be specific about industrial decarbonization and market modeling.
  • Don't neglect the external-facing part of the role; emphasize your ability to present to customers and financiers, not just build models.
