Software Engineer, Mission Systems

• Maintain and augment the automation and services responsible for operating Planet's satellites, including specifying and implementing new HTTP APIs, evaluating software technologies, and designing critical infrastructure.
• Contribute to a team that values open communication, collaboration, and self-learning to solve problems.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (Satellite Operations, Ground Operations, Pipeline, Product) to ensure the satellite constellation meets mission needs.

This role directly enables the operation of Planet's satellite constellation, which provides critical Earth observation data used for environmental monitoring, humanitarian response, and commercial applications, thereby helping to solve global challenges.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or similar.
• 4+ years of relevant work experience.
• Proficiency in Python programming and API design.
• Experience with automated testing, code review, documentation, relational databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL), CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitLab CI, Docker), and Linux.
