Software Engineer - Core Technology

Core responsibilities:

• Work on critical research-oriented software and infrastructure for AI security evaluations
• Build and maintain tools like Inspect (open-source evaluation framework) and model hosting platforms
• Support research teams with custom infrastructure design for new projects
• Collaborate with the open-source community on feature development

This role directly influences how frontier AI is governed and deployed globally, working with government leaders and leading AI companies to shape AI safety policies and prevent advanced AI risks.

Required skills and experience:

• Writing production quality code at fast pace
• Python experience with understanding of Pythonic practices and ecosystem
• Experience with AWS or other cloud providers using infrastructure-as-code
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working with world-class research teams (desired)

Compensation and benefits:

• Salary range: £65,000–£145,000 (base plus technical allowance)
