How to Apply for Senior Software Engineer I (Flex)
at Kaluza
๐ข About Kaluza
Kaluza is an energy intelligence platform that leverages data, AI, and real-time decision-making to help energy companies navigate complexity and accelerate the clean energy transition. With a global presence and partnerships with major players like OVO, AGL, and Volkswagen, Kaluza offers a unique opportunity to work on impactful technology that directly contributes to decarbonisation.
About This Role
As a Senior Engineer I on the Flex platform team, you will build systems that connect energy retailers, grid operators, and other stakeholders to enable flexible energy management. Your work will directly support the integration of renewable energy sources and help make clean energy more dependable and affordable.
๐ก A Day in the Life
Youโll start your day with a stand-up with your remote team, discussing progress on integrating a new energy retailerโs systems. Youโll spend the morning coding a new event processor for real-time demand data, then pair with a colleague on optimizing a microservice. After lunch, youโll review a design doc for a new feature enabling grid operators to send flexibility signals, and end the day with a retrospective on the sprint.
๐ Application Tools
๐ฏ Who Kaluza Is Looking For
- Proven experience in senior-level software engineering, ideally in energy, fintech, or other complex distributed systems (e.g., 5+ years).
- Strong proficiency in languages like Kotlin, Java, or Python, and familiarity with cloud-native architectures (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Experience with real-time data processing, event-driven systems, or microservices architecture.
- Passion for sustainability and the energy transition, with the ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid/remote team across time zones.
๐ Tips for Applying to Kaluza
Highlight any experience with energy systems, smart grids, or IoT devices in your resume and cover letter.
Quantify your impact in previous roles (e.g., 'Reduced latency by 30%' or 'Scaled system to handle 10x traffic').
Tailor your application to mention Kaluza's mission and how your values align with decarbonisation.
If you have experience with Kotlin or event-driven systems, make it prominent.
Ensure your application clearly states your eligibility to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
โ๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
["Express enthusiasm for Kaluza's mission to empower energy suppliers and drive decarbonisation.", 'Describe a specific project where you built scalable, real-time systems that solved complex problems.', 'Mention your collaborative approach and experience working in cross-functional teams across different geographies.', 'Explain why you are interested in the Flex team specifically and how your skills can help connect energy stakeholders.']
