Senior Program Officer, Climate, ASPI Delhi

Core responsibilities:

• Develop and coordinate pioneering projects that help shape climate policy in India and the rest of Asia, especially the development of national emissions trading systems (ETSs) and associated carbon markets
• Coordinate and draft reports, policy papers, media articles, and other project deliverables on ETS development, energy transition, industrial decarbonisation, net zero emission goals and other climate policy topics
• Conduct desk research on the status of ETS development in Asia and best practice in ETS design, applicable to specific Asian contexts
• Build and maintain relationships with key project stakeholders at Asian and international levels

This role creates positive change by supporting the development and implementation of ambitious and effective climate policies in Asia, particularly through carbon pricing and emissions trading systems, to transition to clean energy and achieve net zero emissions goals across major Asian economies.

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or higher preferred in subject relevant to climate change mitigation policy
• Minimum three years of relevant professional experience in a government, consulting, research, or NGO environment
• Demonstrated expertise in GHG emissions trading systems, including compliance and voluntary carbon markets
• Experience in economic, energy system and GHG emission modelling
• Good understanding of India's power and industrial sectors, and associated climate and energy policies
• Proven track record in developing high quality and impactful written products for policy decision-makers
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience with organisation and delivery of events such as workshops, panel discussions, roundtables, etc.
