Senior Policy Officer - Trade & Economy

Core responsibilities:

• Provide support in the preparation and implementation of programmes developed out of the Mission's strategic plan
• Support AU Member States in articulating common positions on trade-related matters, particularly in WTO and UN committees and working groups
• Coordinate the activities of the Permanent Delegation on thematic related to trade and economy
• Provide technical analysis and position documents for the defence of African group interests on trade and economic matters

This role creates positive change by defending African group interests on trade and economic matters, promoting African candidatures in the international system, and supporting AU Member States in articulating common positions to advance economic development across Africa.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Master's in Economics, Trade or related field with minimum seven (7) years work experience, out of which three (3) should be at expert level OR Bachelor Degree with minimum ten (10) years relevant work experience, out of which three (3) should be at expert level
• Ability to apply economic and trade theories and concepts and conduct independent research on economic and trade questions
• Ability to analyze and interpret data in support of decision-making and sound writing and reporting skills
• Proficiency in one of the AU working languages (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, and Spanish) is mandatory

Compensation and benefits:

• Indicative basic salary of US$ 37,453.00 (P3 Step 1) per annum
• Post adjustment (64% of basic salary)
• Housing allowance US$ 31,003.20 (per annum)
• Education allowance (100% of tuition and other education-related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$ 10,000.00 per child per annum for internationally recruited staff)
• Regular term contract for a period of three (3) years, renewable subject to satisfactory performance
