Senior Policy Officer, Economic and Commercial Cooperation

Core responsibilities:

• Follow-up on AU and China cooperation on Political, Peace and Security matters, including coordination on multilateralism and counterterrorism
• Serve as liaison point for the Group of African Ambassadors in China and coordinate implementation of FOCAC outcomes and AU Agenda 2063
• Manage day-to-day cooperation with China on peace, security, governance and counterterrorism in liaison with relevant AU departments
• Provide support to the Permanent Representative in China-AU economic cooperation with emphasis on trade and investment promotion

This role creates positive change by strengthening Africa-China cooperation on economic development, trade, and security matters, advancing Africa's regional integration initiatives like ACFTA and SAATM, and implementing the FOCAC Action Plans to promote sustainable development across the continent.

Required qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Political Science, Economics, Social Sciences, Law, International Relations, Development Studies, Security Studies, Public Administration or related fields with 7+ years relevant experience OR Bachelor's Degree with 10+ years experience (3+ at expert level)
• Work experience in public international organizations, diplomatic missions and similar institutions
• Knowledge in economic development, including trade, investment, and industrialization
• Understanding of peace and security management efforts of the AU and Regional Economic Communities
