Mission

What you will drive

Policy Research and Analysis

  • Monitor and synthesize legislative, regulatory, and executive policy activities at the state level related to energy policy areas including distribution system planning, resilience, wildfire mitigation, flexible interconnection, virtual power plants, and large-load integration.
  • Analyze regulatory dockets, legislation, and proceedings using qualitative and quantitative data, translating findings into clear insights and recommendations for industry and policymaker audiences.
  • Support SEPA's Working Groups by identifying policy trends, preparing content, shaping agendas, and driving member discussions and engagement strategies.

Writing and Editing

  • Write and edit external communications such as newsletters, blogs, briefs, white papers, reports, and presentations to communicate complex regulatory and policy topics accessibly.
  • Create internal communications including talking points, memos, and agendas to inform staff and leadership about key policy topics and trends.
  • Contribute policy input and expertise for webinars, public events, panel discussions, and online learning courses.

Project Delivery

  • Lead assigned tasks and independently manage small projects from scoping to delivery using project management tools.
  • Support departmental tracking of tasks, milestones, outputs, and outcomes.
  • Represent SEPA at conferences and meetings with utilities, regulators, policymakers, and industry partners, presenting research findings and gathering stakeholder input.

Profile

What makes you a great fit

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in energy policy, public policy, economics, environmental policy, or related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of work experience in an energy policy role at a utility, state regulatory commission, government agency, consulting, or nonprofit, with experience in state utility dockets and legislative processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of energy regulatory and legislative processes; familiarity with topics like customer program design, distribution system planning, grid modernization, resilience, wildfire mitigation, or electrification preferred.
  • Excellent writing, problem-solving, and analytical skills; proficiency with policy research, analytical tools, data gathering, and presentation for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to design and facilitate stakeholder meetings, workshops, or convenings across policy, regulatory, and technical audiences.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, ability to manage multiple assignments independently in a fast-paced environment, willingness to learn, and strong attention to detail.
