Senior Manager, California State Affairs

• Lead the development and implementation of key aspects of EDF’s California-based work, including education and policy advocacy campaigns to support major workstream priorities.
• Manage consultants, coordinate among multiple EDF workstreams and experts, and own relationships with key stakeholders, influential decisionmakers, and government agencies.
• Represent EDF and organizational positions to external stakeholders as a key on-the-ground presence in Sacramento.
• Manage 1-2 junior staff members and independently guide specific projects.

This role directly shapes California’s climate and environmental policies, advancing EDF’s mission to solve the most critical environmental problems through advocacy and collaboration with key decision-makers.

• Minimum of eight years’ experience working to effect change in California, with a demonstrated history of success in state environmental policy through engagement with industry, regulators, elected officials, and other stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science, policy, economics, or law related to the environment; Master’s degree may substitute for up to two years of work experience.
• Experience with California legislative process and politics, and solid understanding of political dynamics surrounding environmental issues.
• Demonstrable people and project management skills, and ability to represent EDF in public and with the press.
