How to Apply for Senior Cloud Systems Engineer (Multi-Cloud)

at Protera

🏢 About Protera

Protera is at the forefront of sustainable protein innovation, using cutting-edge technology to create nutritious food while reducing environmental impact. Working here means contributing to a mission-driven company that values both technical excellence and global sustainability.

About This Role

As a Senior Cloud Systems Engineer, you will architect and manage multi-cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP, ensuring high availability, security, and cost efficiency. Your work directly supports Protera's R&D and production systems, enabling faster innovation in protein technology.

💡 A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a stand-up to coordinate with R&D on deployment needs, then dive into writing Terraform modules to provision a new GCP environment. After lunch, you could troubleshoot a performance issue on an AWS EC2 instance, and later review cloud cost reports to identify savings opportunities.

🎯 Who Protera Is Looking For

  • Has 5+ years of hands-on experience in cloud engineering with deep expertise in at least two of AWS, Azure, or GCP, and working knowledge of the third.
  • Strong Linux administration skills (Red Hat, SUSE, Ubuntu) and experience with Windows Server, including patching, performance tuning, and hardening.
  • Proficient in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM) and scripting (Bash, Python, PowerShell) for automation.
  • Collaborative mindset with experience working cross-functionally to support deployments and troubleshoot complex system issues.

📝 Tips for Applying to Protera

1

Tailor your resume to highlight multi-cloud experience, especially any work involving AWS, Azure, and GCP simultaneously.

2

Quantify your impact in previous roles, e.g., 'Reduced cloud costs by 30% through reserved instances and right-sizing.'

3

Mention any experience with protein tech, biotech, or food science industries, even if tangential, to show alignment with Protera's mission.

4

Include links to your GitHub or portfolio showcasing IaC scripts (Terraform, CloudFormation) or automation projects.

5

In your cover letter, explicitly connect your cloud expertise to enabling sustainable food production.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Your passion for sustainability and how cloud engineering can drive environmental impact.', 'Concrete examples of designing multi-cloud architectures that improved scalability and cost efficiency.', 'Experience with Linux/Windows system administration and automation in a production environment.', 'Your ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, DevOps) to accelerate deployment cycles.']
