Senior Associate/Research Scientist - Air Quality Observations

Core responsibilities:

• Design and conduct air pollution studies using reference- or research-grade gas monitors, aerosol characterisation equipment (including AMS/ACSM), and networks of lower-cost air sensors.
• Formulate research questions and undertake data analysis to address them.
• Develop data analysis tools and packages, as required, in collaboration with the AI/ML and Digital Applications teams.
• Develop proposals and draft technical reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
• Deliver lectures as part of capacity-building workshops for external stakeholders, including government officials and non-specialists.
• Present at national and international conferences, and participate in or organise workshops.
• Mentor junior researchers in data analysis and report writing.

This role contributes to air quality research and monitoring, which directly addresses environmental health challenges and informs policy decisions to improve public health outcomes related to air pollution.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Experience with air pollution monitoring equipment and data analysis
• Ability to formulate research questions and conduct data analysis
• Experience developing data analysis tools and packages
• Strong technical writing skills for reports and manuscripts
• Experience with capacity-building and stakeholder engagement
• Conference presentation and workshop organization experience
• Mentoring experience for junior researchers
