Scientist - Urban Wildlands

• Serve as a public expert on wildlife connectivity and water issues, focusing on threats from urban sprawl, habitat loss, and climate change.
• Research and draft comment letters, reports, policy documents, factsheets, and educational materials based on sound science.
• Support development and advancement of strategic policy positions for freshwater systems and wildlife connectivity.
• Give presentations at public hearings, work with local planning staff, and engage with media.

This role directly influences land-use policies to protect critical wildlife habitat, reduce pollution, and combat climate change, helping to prevent species extinction and preserve biodiversity in urban-wildland interfaces.

• Minimum three years of professional experience or advanced degree in conservation biology, ecology, planning or related field.
• Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills, including public speaking.
• Familiarity with environmental laws (CEQA, NEPA, ESA) and experience with coalitions.
• Ability to balance multiple tasks and complete long-term projects in a timely manner.

Salary range: $55,000 - $75,000 annually. Remote position with California preferred. Supportive, fast-paced environment. Part of a bargaining unit.
