Mission

What you will drive

Core responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and analysis on just land transitions, clean energy transitions, and climate resilience in California's Central Valley, and on climate-resilient grid infrastructure planning and investments.
  • Represent UCS as an expert in coalitions, conferences, regulatory proceedings, and media engagements, advocating for science-based policies and solutions.
  • Communicate findings through scientific publications, blog posts, presentations, and policy recommendations to diverse audiences including scientists, policymakers, and the public.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and community stakeholders to advance UCS's clean energy, equity, and climate resilience goals.

Profile

What makes you a great fit

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a climate science or energy systems-related field with broad knowledge of climate change impacts on energy systems and familiarity with renewable generation and transmission systems.
  • Strong research skills in designing and carrying out transdisciplinary scientific research, with ability to identify policy-relevant questions and communicate clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Systems thinking ability to integrate perspectives across engineering, physical sciences, and social sciences, with strong communication, relationship-building, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience working in or navigating federal, state, or local regulatory and decision spaces, with preference for experience with underserved communities and co-created projects that center community decision-making.
