How to Apply for SCADA Systems & Integration Engineer
at esVolta
🏢 About esVolta
esVolta is a leading developer, owner, and operator of utility-scale energy storage projects across North America, with about 2.0 GWh of projects in operation or under construction. They are independently owned and among the largest players in the US energy storage sector, playing a pivotal role in transitioning the grid to cleaner and more reliable energy. Working here means contributing directly to the renewable energy revolution and being part of a fast-growing, impactful industry.
About This Role
As a SCADA Systems & Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining SCADA systems for large-scale battery energy storage projects. This role is critical because SCADA systems are the 'brain' that monitors and controls the storage assets, ensuring they operate efficiently and reliably to provide grid services. Your work will directly impact the performance and profitability of esVolta's projects and the stability of the grid.
💡 A Day in the Life
A typical day might involve monitoring the performance of SCADA systems across multiple storage sites, troubleshooting any communication issues, and coordinating with field technicians and software vendors. You might also spend time configuring new SCADA points for a project under construction, reviewing cybersecurity logs, and participating in virtual meetings with the engineering and operations teams to ensure seamless integration.
🚀 Application Tools
🎯 Who esVolta Is Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with 3+ years of experience in SCADA systems for power or energy storage.
- Strong knowledge of SCADA protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850) and experience with HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware, or similar).
- Experience with integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS) with utility grid controls, including understanding of PPC (Plant Power Controller) and EMS (Energy Management System) integration.
- Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls) and cybersecurity standards (NERC CIP) is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work independently in a remote setting, and strong communication skills to coordinate with internal teams and external vendors.
📝 Tips for Applying to esVolta
Highlight any specific experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) and SCADA integration, even if it's from a related field like solar or wind.
Quantify your achievements in previous roles, such as 'Reduced system downtime by 20%' or 'Successfully integrated SCADA for a 100 MW storage project.'
Since the role is remote, emphasize your ability to work autonomously and manage projects across different time zones, with examples of remote collaboration.
Tailor your resume to include keywords from the job description, such as 'SCADA', 'integration', 'energy storage', 'Modbus', 'DNP3', and 'NERC CIP'.
Include a cover letter even if not required, to showcase your passion for renewable energy and your specific understanding of esVolta's projects.
✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
['Express strong interest in the mission of esVolta and the role of energy storage in grid modernization.', 'Highlight your technical expertise in SCADA systems and any direct experience with battery storage integration.', 'Mention your ability to work remotely and manage complex projects with minimal supervision.', 'Showcase your knowledge of industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NERC) and your commitment to cybersecurity in OT environments.']
