Research Software Engineer

Core responsibilities:

• Contribute to C-Star, an open-source toolkit for high-fidelity physical-biogeochemical models
• Develop software that streamlines the entire process of running large ocean models, from data gathering to model execution and result extraction
• Work on workflow management, HPC paradigms, complex data transformations, scaled data engineering, schema design, and cloud/HPC hybrid environments
• Utilize technical skills in DevOps and scientific software engineering to create robust, user-friendly, reproducible, and auditable tools

This role creates positive change by developing science-backed tools for Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) that quantify carbon removal and assess ecosystem impacts with scientific credibility, supporting the development of high-integrity carbon dioxide removal markets.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Strong foundation in Python software development
• Experience with one or more supporting skill sets relevant to scientific software engineering
• Ability to grow into new technical areas as needed
• Mid-level to senior experience level (based on role fit)
