Mission
What you will drive
- Design cutting-edge breeding blanket systems for fusion reactors, integrating neutron transport, gamma heating, thermo-fluids, and structural physics.
- Use modeling tools from reduced-order analytical models to multiphysics simulations to explore blanket design space and identify promising directions.
- Develop sequential test plans to guide laboratory work, focusing on critical technical questions.
- Determine regulatory requirements by analyzing analogous codes and standards (NRC, ASTM, etc.) and design for safety and reliability using best practices (FMEA, HALT, etc.).
Impact
The difference you'll make
This role directly contributes to making fusion energy a practical, abundant, and reliable clean energy source, helping combat climate change by enabling self-sustaining fusion reactors at scale.
Profile
What makes you a great fit
- MS or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of work experience beyond academic training.
- Experience with fusion reactors, next-generation fission reactors, or accelerators.
- Familiarity with modeling tools such as neutronics, CFD, FEA, and/or atmospheric dispersion modeling.
- Demonstrated track record of deploying safety-critical systems in the lab or field.
Benefits
What's in it for you
Medical, dental, and vision insurance; generous paid time off and sick leave; 401(k) plan with 4% employer match; commuter benefits; fully stocked kitchen. Relocation reimbursement of $5,000 for candidates relocating to the Bay Area. Equity included for all full-time employees.
