Research Scholar

Core responsibilities:

• Conduct policy research, social science research, or technical research on AI governance topics
• Advise policymakers and decision-makers on pressing governance issues
• Produce original research in the form of academic publications, policy memos, reports, or blog posts
• Convene key stakeholders around high-priority questions or launch new initiatives/organizations

This role creates positive change by helping humanity navigate the transition to a world with advanced AI through research, policy advising, and stakeholder engagement that informs decision-makers in government, industry, and civil society.

Required qualifications:

• Strong interest in positively shaping the lasting impacts of AI, in line with GovAI's mission
• Demonstrated ability to produce excellent work or achieve impressive results
• Some familiarity with AI governance
• Some expertise in a domain relevant to AI governance
• Compelling explanation of how this position will help you have a large impact

Compensation and details:

• Fixed 12-month contract term
• Supervision by GovAI team member or network (weekly/bi-weekly meetings)
• Mentorship by external expert or GovAI team member
• Guidance and support from Research Managers
• Regular work-in-progress sessions with team feedback
• Opportunity to apply for longer-term positions at GovAI after contract ends
