Research Manager

Core responsibilities:

• Accelerate and guide AI safety researchers, facilitating high-impact projects
• Work with mentors and scholars to provide feedback, drive projects to completion, and support career development
• May specialize in theory, engineering, management, or communication
• Spearhead internal projects and contribute to strategic planning and development of MATS

This role helps accelerate and launch the careers of highly talented early-career AI Safety researchers and contributes to impactful research projects that address catastrophic AI risk, which is described as the world's most urgent and talent-constrained problem.

Required qualifications:

• 2-5 years experience across project management, research management, people management, technical research, governance, or mentoring
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong listening skills and empathy
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Strong alignment with our mission, and familiarity with the basic ideas behind AGI safety and catastrophic AI risk

Compensation and benefits:

• Compensation: $130,000-$200,000 annually for Berkeley roles and £85,000-£130,000 for London roles
