Research Fellow—Public Philosophy

Core responsibilities:

• Intensive training modules and mentoring in public writing and argument
• Produce targeted arguments engaged in the news-cycle for publication in both in-house and national media, with specific output quotas (usually 2+ per month)
• Collaborate with the Civic Thought Initiative at Yale University, including an in-person residency and participation in salon-style discussions
• Develop longer-term academic work in the candidate's given field and handle administrative responsibilities tied to the initiative's broader work

This role raises the profile of public philosophy in the United States and globally, developing new infrastructure at the intersection of academia and public discourse to engage robustly on pressing societal issues and stimulate reflection about justice, good life, and societal purpose.

Required qualifications:

• A PhD in Philosophy or a related field (or exceptional cases of intellectual journalists with strong publication records)
• Demonstrated intellectual interest in pressing philosophical issues facing society, with aptitude in philosophical anthropology and topics like humanism, technology, virtue, and societal purpose
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Strong academic records in research and publication, with experience in public writing and engaging with media/social media preferred
