**Mission and objectives:**


The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific: Subregional Office for South and South-West Asia (ESCAP-SSWA) is the subregional platform to promote regional cooperation for inclusive and sustainable economic and social development in South and South-West Asia.


The SSWA Office bridges the developing and developed countries in the subregion and works with ten member States in the subregion, namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Turkey.


Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) is a regional institution of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) servicing the Asia-Pacific region. APCTT promotes an enabling environment for innovation, transfer and commercialization of technologies in 53 member states and 9 associate members of UNESCAP. All member states and associate members of UNESCAP are de facto members of APCTT.
**Context:**


Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) is a specialized regional institution of the UNESCAP. It is committed to fostering sustainable development through the promotion of technology transfer and innovation. In the context of increasing climate challenges, APCTT is focusing on the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and remote sensing applications to address climate change impacts in the Asia-Pacific region. By leveraging these advanced technologies, APCTT aims to support member states in enhancing climate resilience, improving environmental monitoring, and facilitating data-driven decision-making processes for sustainable development. This internship aligns with APCTT's mission to bridge technology gaps and promote cutting-edge solutions for the region's pressing environmental issues.
**Task description:**


Under the direct supervision of Programme Management Officer, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:


Support the APCTT team in exploring the intersection of AI and climate change, focus-ing on developing and applying AI-driven models and remote sensing technologies to monitor, analyse, and mitigate climate impacts.


Support in research, data analysis, and contributing to innovative solutions that en-hance climate resilience and sustainability in the Asia-Pacific region.


Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:


Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by read-ing relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);


Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;


Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;


Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;


Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

**Age:** 18 - 80

**Required experience:** 1 month

**Nationality:** Candidate must be a national, legal resident or hold refugee status in the country of assignment.

**Additional eligibility criteria:**


This assignment is funded by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and therefore only students currently enrolled at KIIT University are eligible to apply.

**Required education level:**


Bachelor's degree in (currently enrolled) in social science, information technology, environment science, remote sensing or other relevant field.

Familiarity with science, technology and innovation, renewable energy, climate change, artificial intelligence, remote sensing and related issues is desirable. Data handling skills and skills in using spreadsheets, Excel is also an asset.
