How to Apply for Project Manager [Remote]

at EDF Renewables

🏢 About EDF Renewables

EDF Renewables is a global leader in renewable energy, backed by the EDF Group, one of the world's largest electric utilities. They are at the forefront of the energy transition, developing large-scale wind, solar, and storage projects. Working here offers the chance to impact the future of energy with a company that values sustainability and innovation.

About This Role

As a Project Manager, you will lead utility-scale renewable projects (100-600MW) from development through construction and financial close. You'll orchestrate cross-functional teams, manage budgets and schedules, and drive projects to Final Investment Decision. This role is pivotal in turning complex renewable energy projects into reality.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might start with a stand-up meeting with your remote team to review project milestones and risks. You'll then review financial models, update the project schedule in MS Project, and hold calls with landowners, permitting agencies, or contractors. Afternoon could involve preparing a presentation for an investment committee or troubleshooting a construction issue.

🎯 Who EDF Renewables Is Looking For

  • You have 5+ years managing large-scale, complex projects in renewable energy or related fields, with a PMP certification preferred.
  • You possess deep knowledge of the renewable energy lifecycle: development, permitting, land acquisition, procurement, construction, engineering, insurance, tax equity, and project finance.
  • You are a master of MS Project, Visio, and the Office suite, using these tools to keep projects on track and communicate clearly.
  • You are a decisive leader who thrives in a remote environment, excels at stakeholder management, and can navigate risk and profitability trade-offs.

📝 Tips for Applying to EDF Renewables

1

Highlight specific renewable energy projects you've managed, especially wind, solar, or storage, and quantify their size (MW) and stage (development through FID).

2

Demonstrate your proficiency with MS Project by mentioning a complex schedule you built or a critical path analysis you performed.

3

Tailor your resume to show experience with financial closing and investment approval processes, as this is a key responsibility.

4

Mention any experience working with tax equity or project finance structures, as these are critical for EDF's projects.

5

Since the role is remote, emphasize your self-discipline, communication practices, and experience leading distributed teams.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Your passion for renewable energy and alignment with EDF Renewables' mission to lead the energy transition.", 'Specific examples of managing projects from mid-stage development through FID and construction, with measurable outcomes.', 'Your ability to handle the financial complexities of large-scale projects, including securing investment approvals.', 'Your leadership style and how you maintain robust communication among internal and external stakeholders in a remote setting.']

  • Look into their sustainability initiatives and corporate values, as they may be emphasized in the interview.
  • Check for any news about their involvement in emerging technologies like solar+storage or green hydrogen.

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

3 Walk me through the steps you take to prepare a project for Final Investment Decision (FID). What are the critical milestones?

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't focus only on construction experience; this role requires deep knowledge of the development and financial stages too.
  • Avoid vague descriptions of your project management skills; use specific examples with MW sizes, budgets, and timelines.
  • Don't underestimate the importance of MS Project proficiency; failing to demonstrate this can be a deal-breaker.
