How to Apply for Project Development Analyst

at Mission Clean Energy

๐Ÿข About Mission Clean Energy

Mission Clean Energy is uniquely positioned to accelerate grid decarbonization with over 4 gigawatts of renewable energy projects. As a remote-first company, they offer flexibility while driving impactful utility-scale solar and battery storage developments. Their focus on greenfielding through NTP provides hands-on experience in the full project lifecycle.

About This Role

As a Project Development Analyst, you will support the development of utility-scale solar and battery storage projects from greenfielding through NTP, including land acquisition, interconnection, and permitting. This role is critical in managing project plans, budgets, and risks, directly contributing to the company's mission of decarbonizing the grid. You'll coordinate contractors and vendors, conduct market analysis, and support RFP responses, making you a key player in project success.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

A typical day might start with reviewing project schedules and updating Smartsheet with progress from contractors. You could then analyze GIS data for potential new sites, followed by a call with a land agent about acquisition terms. After lunch, you might prepare a risk assessment for management and coordinate with the interconnection team on queue positions. The day often ends with responding to emails from vendors and updating project budgets.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Mission Clean Energy Is Looking For

  • A candidate with a Bachelorโ€™s degree in business, planning, engineering, environmental, or finance, and ideally a Masterโ€™s or related work experience in GIS, land acquisition, law, or environmental consulting.
  • Someone with foundational knowledge of renewable energy markets and project lifecycle, and preferably hands-on experience in solar and/or battery project development.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Smartsheet for managing schedules and budgets; knowledge of ArcGIS is a plus for site analysis and due diligence.
  • A detail-oriented individual who can track project risks, coordinate multiple stakeholders, and communicate effectively with management and external partners.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Mission Clean Energy

1

Highlight any direct experience with utility-scale solar or battery storage projects, even if in a supporting role like land agent or environmental consultant.

2

Demonstrate proficiency in Smartsheet and ArcGIS by mentioning specific projects where you used these tools for project tracking or spatial analysis.

3

Tailor your resume to show experience in managing project schedules, budgets, and risks, using metrics like number of projects or MW capacity.

4

Include examples of market analysis or due diligence you've conducted for renewable energy sites, such as evaluating interconnection queues or land constraints.

5

Mention any familiarity with RFP processes or contractor coordination, as these are key responsibilities in the role.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Emphasize your passion for grid decarbonization and how your background aligns with Mission Clean Energy's goal of accelerating renewable energy projects.", "Highlight specific experience in solar/battery development stages (greenfielding, permitting, NTP) and how you've contributed to similar projects.", 'Showcase your analytical skills with examples of using Excel, Smartsheet, or GIS for project management or site analysis.', 'Demonstrate your ability to work independently in a remote environment, coordinating with contractors and vendors across different time zones.']

โš ๏ธ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying without tailoring your resume to highlight renewable energy project experience or relevant skills like GIS or Smartsheet.
  • Overlooking the remote aspect: failing to mention how you manage remote work or coordinate with teams across different locations.
  • Being too generic about your interest in renewable energy; show specific knowledge of utility-scale solar and battery storage challenges.
