Program Legal Counsel

Core responsibilities:

• Ensure Acumen Canada activities comply with Canadian laws and donor requirements, including maintaining legal status and coordinating governmental filings
• Develop and implement internal processes to optimize efficiency and scale while ensuring compliance with Canadian laws and donor requirements
• Draft and review contracts for all program activities across charitable and commercial issues including general contract, intellectual property, data privacy, employment, governance and formation matters
• Develop and implement various projects on behalf of the program, working across functions and creating milestones toward timely execution

This role supports a five-year program that aims to impact approximately 400 early stage social enterprises in the African green economy, creating and improving dignified work opportunities for women and youth while ensuring legal compliance and efficient program delivery.

Required qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years experience practicing corporate law and managing legal projects across various stakeholders
• Familiarity with Canadian laws and ability to interpret Canadian laws and donor requirements to provide practical guidance
• Strong project management, stakeholder management, and communication skills with ability to work proactively under pressure
• Permanently authorized to work in Canada with a license to practice law and commitment to Acumen's mission and business model

Compensation and culture:

• Salary range: C$120,000 to C$163,000 Canadian Dollars plus performance-based bonus
