What you will drive
Core responsibilities:
- Provide legal support to Acumen West Africa, including for a new five-year programme focused on the African green economy
- Ensure compliance with Canadian and Nigerian laws, maintain legal status of local entities, and implement compliance policies
- Draft and review contracts across charitable and commercial issues, including intellectual property, data privacy, and employment matters
- Support deal documentation and coordination for early-stage equity, debt, and other investments in West Africa
- Manage legal projects, develop processes and templates, and collaborate with cross-functional teams

This role supports a programme that aims to impact approximately 400 early-stage social enterprises in the African green economy, creating and improving dignified work opportunities for women and youth, while helping build sustainable markets and break the cycle of poverty.

What makes you a great fit
Required qualifications and skills:
- Minimum 2 years experience practicing transactional law and managing legal projects across stakeholders
- Familiarity with legal issues specific to Nigeria; willingness to learn Canadian legal requirements
- Strong organizational, project management, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to assess legal liabilities, implement risk management protocols, and navigate ambiguity
- Permanently authorized to work in Nigeria with a license to practice law
- Familiarity with venture capital investing, financial concepts, and investment vehicles is a plus
- Experience with non-profit and/or investment regulations and compliance is a plus
- Commitment to Acumen's mission and business model
