Program Legal Associate, East Africa

Core responsibilities:

• Provide legal support to Acumen East Africa, including compliance with Canadian and Kenyan laws, maintaining legal status of local entities, and implementing policies
• Support programme process implementation, conduct due diligence assessments, and ensure adherence to internal processes and donor requirements
• Draft and review contracts for programme activities, covering charitable and commercial issues including intellectual property, data privacy, employment, and governance matters
• Support investment documentation and coordination for early-stage equity, debt, and other investments, including due diligence, regulatory approvals, and deal processes

This role supports early-stage social enterprises in the African green economy that create dignified work opportunities for women and youth, contributing to Acumen's mission of breaking the cycle of poverty through business and investment.

Required qualifications and skills:

• Minimum 2 years experience practicing transactional law and supporting legal projects across various stakeholders
• Familiarity with financial concepts, investment vehicles, and venture capital investing; non-profit and/or investment regulations experience is a plus
• Strong organizational, project management, and stakeholder management skills with excellent written and verbal communication
• Permanently authorized to work in Kenya with a license to practice law; ability to work with different time zones efficiently
