Role Overview

Regulators globally have an increasing expectation that firms have adequate systems and controls in place to mitigate against Record Keeping & Market Abuse Risk such as Insider Dealing, Market Manipulation and Dissemination.

Communication Surveillance and Mobile Capture capabilities are at the forefront of internal and external regulatory enquiries.  We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst to support TP ICAP’s Communication Surveillance Tech Programme.

The Principal Engineer will provide technical leadership and expertise to the Surveillance Technology team, and nurture a culture of continual learning. This role requires a highly skilled, hands-on engineer who is passionate about Communications Surveillance and Record Keeping Technology.

The Principal Engineer will act as the authority for decisions relating to standards and engineering best practices, while driving innovation and modernisation. Responsibilities include leading design, development, and implementation of systems, mentoring team members, and ensuring adherence to architectural principles and quality standards.

The role demands strong collaboration, transparent communication, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions within agile environments.

Role Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical leader and engineer within the team.

  • Provide technical oversight for analysis, design, and delivery of complex systems.

  • Architect and develop high-performance, scalable, and robust solutions for Communications Surveillance and Record Keeping.

  • Ensure adherence to best practices, including architecture reviews, vendor analysis, cross functional impact assessment, and automated testing.

  • Mentor and coach other team members to achieve optimum performance and career growth.

  • Drive innovation by evaluating new Surveillance and Record Keeping technologies and methodologies.

  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Support planning, estimation, and prioritisation of work using agile methodologies.

  • Identify opportunities for system refactoring and evolution toward target architecture.

  • Manage risks and issues effectively, escalating where necessary.

  • Stayed informed with peer organisations to ensure the team stay aligned to industry standards and regulatory expectations for Surveillance and Record Keeping technology.

Experience / Competences

Essential

  • Strong industry experience, specialising in Communications Surveillance Technology.

  • Proven experience in technical leadership within software delivery teams.

  • Hands-on experience with full software development lifecycle.

  • Expertise in at least one industry leading Communications Surveillance solution.

  • Familiarity with ReGex, SQL, and Boolean searching.

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, information security and cloud technologies.

  • Strong understanding of leading market communication platforms and related capture systems such as Bloomberg. LSEG, ICE, Symphony, WhatsApp, WeCom, Smarsh, Global Relay, Behavox, etc.

  • Experience with Communications data, related schemas, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data integrity standards.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and agile methodologies.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.


Desired

  • Knowledge of financial markets or trading systems.

  • Knowledge of FCA Market Abuse Regulation.

  • Experience with performance optimisation and profiling.

  • Familiarity with modern UI frameworks (React, Typescript) and design principles.

  • Exposure to containerisation and orchestration tools.

  • Understanding of architectural frameworks and best practices.

  • Knowledge of AWS or other cloud platforms.
