NICRA Development Consultant

Core responsibilities:

• Develop a compliant indirect cost rate methodology in accordance with 2 CFR Part 200 (Uniform Guidance)
• Prepare all required NICRA documentation and schedules, including financial analysis and schedule preparation
• Strengthen internal understanding of indirect cost allocation within the organization
• Successfully submit a complete NICRA proposal to the cognizant agency (USDA or Department of Interior)

This role helps the Mountain Studies Institute secure proper indirect cost recovery for federal grants, enabling more efficient allocation of resources toward their environmental research and conservation mission.

Required qualifications:

• Prior experience developing and negotiating NICRAs with nonprofits or similar entities
• Expertise in federal grants accounting and 2 CFR 200 compliance, including allowable cost determination and cost allocation principles
• Proven experience calculating and documenting indirect cost rates with reconciliation to financial statements, payroll, and fringe benefit data
• Ability to assess and align financial systems, internal controls, and documentation to meet federal review requirements

Payment structure is hourly rate-based as proposed by the consultant in their application. The project duration is not expected to exceed 16 weeks starting February 2nd, 2026.
