How to Apply for National Organizer of Campaigns

at Right To The City Alliance

๐Ÿข About Right To The City Alliance

Right To The City Alliance is a unique coalition of over 90 grassroots organizations fighting for housing justice and community power. They center the leadership of Black, Indigenous, and people of color, and prioritize a work culture of care, balance, and transformative justice. If you want to be part of a movement-building organization that values both rigor and rest, this is the place.

About This Role

As National Organizer of Campaigns, you will coordinate and support local member organizations in their housing and community development campaigns, building power for a national movement. This role is impactful because you'll directly help halt displacement and advance policies that create healthy, just communities for the most impacted populations.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a check-in with the campaign team, followed by a call with a member organization to strategize on a local housing campaign. You could spend the afternoon facilitating a virtual meeting among coalition partners, then draft a resource guide or action alert. The day ends with a debrief and some time for reflection, as you balance rigor with rest.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Right To The City Alliance Is Looking For

  • Has at least 3-5 years of experience in grassroots organizing, campaign coordination, or movement building, particularly around housing, racial, or environmental justice.
  • Demonstrates a deep commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice, and understands the intersections of displacement and systemic oppression.
  • Experience working with diverse coalitions and member-based organizations, with strong facilitation and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfortable working remotely, managing multiple campaigns, and using digital tools for communication and organizing.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Right To The City Alliance

1

In your resume and cover letter, explicitly name your experience with housing justice, anti-displacement, or allied movements (e.g., tenant organizing, community land trusts).

2

Highlight any experience working in coalitions or with membership-based organizations, as RTTC is alliance-focused.

3

Show that you align with their work culture: mention your ability to balance rigor and rest, and your commitment to transformative justice and principled struggle.

4

Since the role is remote, emphasize your self-motivation, time management, and experience with virtual organizing tools (e.g., Zoom, Slack, action networks).

5

Tailor your application to reflect knowledge of RTTC's history and valuesโ€”mention specific member organizations or campaigns you admire.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Your commitment to the mission: halting displacement and building community power for low-income people and communities of color.', 'Your organizing experience, especially in coalition settings and with grassroots groups.', "Your understanding of RTTC's work cultureโ€”care, balance, transformative justiceโ€”and how you embody it.", 'Your ability to work remotely and support multiple campaigns simultaneously.']

โš ๏ธ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't focus solely on your own achievements without showing how you collaborate and build collective power.
  • Avoid generic language about 'helping the poor'โ€”use specific, politicized language that shows you understand systemic oppression.
  • Don't ignore the work culture aspect: if you present as solely workaholic or dismissive of self-care, it may signal misalignment.
