Manager (Technical Governance Team)

Core responsibilities:

• Manage a team working on technical governance research, including external stakeholder management with policymakers and AI companies
• Handle internal stakeholder management to ensure alignment with broader MIRI goals and pre-publication review of team outputs
• Conduct project management to track existing projects and motivate work toward deadlines
• Perform people management including future hiring rounds and fellowships

This role creates positive change by managing research that informs technical regulations and policies to ensure safe AI development, ultimately reducing existential risks from smarter-than-human artificial intelligence.

Required qualifications:

• Strong background in AI Safety with experience in compute governance, AI policy, or as an AI safety generalist
• Demonstrated agency, conscientiousness, and ability to learn quickly on the job
• Excellent communication skills for both internal team collaboration and external stakeholder engagement
• Alignment with MIRI's values and passion for reducing existential risks from AI

Compensation and benefits:

• Salary range: $120,000–230,000 USD
