Manager (Technical Governance Team)

Core responsibilities for this role include:

• External stakeholder management, building and maintaining relationships with policy makers and AI company employees
• Internal stakeholder management, interfacing with the rest of MIRI and ensuring work consistency with broader goals
• Project management, tracking existing projects and motivating good work toward deadlines
• People management, running future hiring rounds and fellowships
• Research contributions to object level work, with focus on solutions that scale to smarter-than-human intelligence

This role creates positive change by managing a team that researches and designs technical aspects of regulations and policies to ensure safe AI development, ultimately working to reduce existential risks from the transition to smarter-than-human AI.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Strong background in AI Safety with experience in compute governance, AI policy, or as an AI Safety generalist
• Agency, conscientiousness, comfort learning on the job, generative thinking, and strong communication skills
• Alignment with MIRI's values and goals, and passion for reducing existential risks from AI
• Ability to manage a team working on technical governance research and policy design

Compensation and benefits include:

• Salary range: $120,000–230,000
