How to Apply for Major Gifts Officer
at All Our Kin
🏢 About All Our Kin
All Our Kin is a national nonprofit that uniquely empowers family child care educators—often women of color—by providing training, coaching, and advocacy to help them run successful small businesses from home. With a strength-based, high-touch approach, they have reached over 45,000 children annually and are shaping equitable policy for family child care. Working here means joining a mission-driven team dedicated to systemic change in early childhood education.
About This Role
As Major Gifts Officer, you will cultivate and secure $10,000+ gifts from individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners to fuel All Our Kin’s expansion. Reporting to the CDO, you’ll manage a portfolio of high-net-worth prospects, develop tailored solicitation strategies, and steward long-term relationships. Your work directly supports educators and children, making a tangible impact on equitable child care access.
💡 A Day in the Life
A typical day might start with a virtual coffee meeting with a major donor in California, followed by reviewing a foundation proposal deadline. You’ll spend midday updating donor records in Salesforce and drafting a personalized stewardship report for a $25K donor. After lunch, you’ll research new prospects using wealth screening tools and end the day by joining a team call to strategize an upcoming virtual cultivation event.
🚀 Application Tools
🎯 Who All Our Kin Is Looking For
- Proven track record of securing five- and six-figure gifts from individuals, ideally in a national nonprofit or education-focused organization.
- Experience with remote relationship-building, using virtual tools (e.g., Zoom, CRM like Salesforce) to engage donors across the U.S.
- Strong understanding of early childhood education or social justice issues, with ability to articulate All Our Kin’s mission compellingly.
- Self-starter who can manage a full donor cycle independently, from research to stewardship, with minimal oversight.
📝 Tips for Applying to All Our Kin
Tailor your cover letter to All Our Kin’s dual focus: supporting educators as entrepreneurs and child development champions—mention both.
Quantify your fundraising success: e.g., 'Managed portfolio of 50+ donors, increasing annual revenue by 20% to $1.5M.'
Highlight any experience with virtual events or digital stewardship, as the role is fully remote and likely relies on online engagement.
Research All Our Kin’s policy initiatives (e.g., advocating for family child care funding) and mention how that aligns with your values.
Submit your application early (target start July 2026) to show proactive interest; follow up with a brief email to the CDO if no response in 2 weeks.
✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
