Legal Manager

Core responsibilities:

• Provide timely, accurate, and strategic legal advice on all aspects of the organisation's operations, including drafting and reviewing legal documents like MoUs, NDAs, grant agreements, and employment agreements
• Ensure the organisation's compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including NGO-specific regulations, labour and employment laws, tax laws, and data privacy laws
• Manage and oversee all legal proceedings and disputes involving the organisation, coordinating with external legal counsel as needed
• Develop, update, and maintain a repository of all organisational policies and provide periodic training to staff on legal matters

This role creates positive change by ensuring legal compliance and effective governance for an organization focused on energy, environment and water issues, enabling impactful research and policy work to address climate and sustainability challenges.

Required qualifications and skills:

• LLB or Masters in Law with minimum 7-10+ years of experience within a law firm or corporate legal department, with emphasis on laws applying to non-profits
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of laws, regulatory framework, and procedures about Corporate Law, Trust, and FCRA Regulations
• Strong writing and communication skills with ability to collaborate with different teams and engage with donors, clients, government and other stakeholders
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, mission-driven environment
