Legal Counsel, Hardest-to-Reach Amplify

Core responsibilities:

• Provide legal support for Amplify's investment team throughout the investment lifecycle, including deal documentation, due diligence, contract review, and post-investment support
• Draft, review, and negotiate grant and commercial contracts covering finance, banking, intellectual property, data privacy, and governance matters
• Coordinate and oversee external counsel across multiple jurisdictions, manage legal budgets, and ensure compliance with local laws and regulations
• Support global legal operations by developing internal guidance, updating processes, and collaborating with the Director of Legal to create efficiency within the Global Legal Team

This role supports Amplify's mission to provide clean, affordable energy to 70 million people in underserved African communities by enabling debt financing for off-grid solar companies in hardest-to-reach areas where traditional capital cannot operate.

Required qualifications and skills:

• Minimum 8+ years experience in transactional law with strong banking/finance or commercial/corporate law background, including debt financing structures
• Experience working directly with lenders, borrowers, or investors; familiarity with investment funds, banks, or credit funds is a plus
• Knowledge of lending-related regulatory considerations including financial services licensing, cross-border lending restrictions, FX risks, and KYC/AML frameworks
• Experience with downside credit scenarios such as loan amendments, restructurings, or enforcement processes is highly desirable
• Permanently authorized to work in Kenya with license to practice law in UK, US, or France (or equivalent education/work experience)
