How to Apply for Lead, TRP & GAC Secretariat

at The Global Fund

🏢 About The Global Fund

The Global Fund is a unique partnership that mobilizes and invests billions of dollars annually to end epidemics of HIV, TB, and malaria. With a focus on impact, innovation, and equity, it works with governments, civil society, and private sector to save lives and strengthen health systems. Working here means contributing to a mission-driven organization that has saved over 50 million lives.

About This Role

As Lead of the TRP & GAC Secretariat, you will be the linchpin ensuring the Technical Review Panel and Global Advisory Committee operate effectively to guide funding decisions. This role is impactful because you directly influence which proposals get funded, shaping the fight against three major infectious diseases. You'll coordinate expert reviews, manage governance processes, and facilitate strategic dialogue between committees and Global Fund leadership.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve reviewing a draft TRP report for consistency, preparing briefing materials for an upcoming committee meeting, and facilitating a call between the GAC chair and Global Fund leadership. You might also coordinate with country teams on proposal timelines and ensure that expert feedback is integrated into funding recommendations.

🎯 Who The Global Fund Is Looking For

  • Extensive experience in global health governance, particularly in secretariat functions supporting expert committees (e.g., at WHO, World Bank, or bilateral agencies).
  • Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, including balancing inputs from technical experts, senior leadership, and country partners.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, capable of synthesizing diverse technical recommendations into clear, actionable briefs for decision-makers.
  • Experience with funding proposal review processes, ideally in the context of HIV, TB, or malaria grants.

📝 Tips for Applying to The Global Fund

1

Highlight your experience in managing expert committees or panels, specifying the size, frequency, and geographic diversity of the groups.

2

Demonstrate knowledge of the Global Fund's funding model, including the role of the TRP in reviewing concept notes and funding requests.

3

In your cover letter, mention specific challenges in global health governance (e.g., balancing country ownership with technical rigor) and how you've addressed them.

4

Tailor your resume to emphasize leadership in coordination, not just participation – show you've led secretariat functions.

5

Include examples of how you've improved processes or facilitated consensus among diverse experts.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Your passion for the mission: ending HIV, TB, and malaria as epidemics.', 'Specific experience with governance and secretariat functions for technical committees.', 'Your ability to synthesize complex information for senior leadership.', "Knowledge of the Global Fund's structure and the critical role of TRP/GAC in ensuring accountability."]

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Avoid generic statements about 'global health' without specific reference to the Global Fund's unique partnership model.
