Lead - Finance

As Lead - Finance, you will build and lead R-Cities' global finance function, owning financial strategy, planning, and reporting across multiple entities. You will oversee grant finance and compliance, financial operations, risk management, and team leadership, transitioning from external providers to a strong in-house function.

• Develop and implement financial strategy, multi-year plans, annual budgeting, and cash flow forecasting.
• Ensure compliance with donor, regulatory, and audit requirements across all entities and grants.
• Oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and systems development (e.g., Sage Intacct).
• Lead and develop the finance team, building capacity and embedding finance in decision-making.

This role ensures the financial sustainability and integrity of an organization supporting over 100 cities worldwide, enabling them to build resilience against climate and social challenges. By strengthening financial systems and compliance, you directly contribute to the effective delivery of programs that improve lives and communities.

• Senior-level experience (typically 8+ years) leading finance in mission-driven or nonprofit organizations, with emphasis on grants and restricted funding.
• Strong understanding of full grant/project lifecycles, including budgeting, reporting, compliance, and audit.
• Experience across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions, familiar with US and/or Dutch nonprofit regulatory environments.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, audits, and statutory filings.
• Track record of leading and developing finance staff and building capacity in transitioning organizations.
• Strong strategic thinking, financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario planning.
• Comfortable advising leadership and Boards, explaining financial concepts to non-finance audiences.
• Fluent in English.
