About the Role / Overview

The role involves leading the growth and strategic direction of the Land Development practice in the Washington, DC office.

Responsibilities / What You'll Do

  • Lead the growth and strategic direction of the Land Development practice in the Washington, DC office
  • Develop and expand client relationships; serve as a trusted advisor to public and private sector clients
  • Drive business development efforts, including market positioning, pursuit strategy, and proposal leadership
  • Maintain ownership of project financial performance, including scope, schedule, staffing, and profitability
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to identify growth opportunities and support long-term office expansion
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and designers
  • Provide coaching and technical oversight while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive culture
  • Set clear expectations and support career development for staff at multiple experience levels
  • Provide technical guidance and quality oversight on commercial land development projects
  • Lead or support design efforts using Civil 3D and related modeling tools as needed
  • Ensure projects comply with state and local jurisdictional requirements
  • Oversee preparation of plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates
  • Maintain strong coordination between clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders

Profile

What makes you a great fit

  • Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) or similar licensure preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in civil engineering with a strong background in commercial land development
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client management, and team leadership
  • Strong understanding of project accounting, budgeting, and multi-project resource management
  • Experience supervising and mentoring technical staff
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D and standard engineering and office software
  • A leadership mindset marked by professionalism, accountability, and collaboration
