About
Indonesia Cocoa Agronomist
We are seeking an experienced Indonesia Cocoa Agronomist to provide technical advice on cocoa agronomy and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for smallholder farmers in Indonesia.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Provide technical advice on cocoa agronomy and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for smallholder farmers in Indonesia
- Design and develop agronomy-focused interventions, e.g. improving yield, pest and disease management, and rehabilitation practices
- Develop and refine agronomy-related questionnaires and field monitoring tools
- Conduct field-based monitoring to assess adoption of agronomic practices and implementation quality
- Support coordination with implementing partners, extension services, farmer organizations, NGOs, and other key cocoa stakeholders in Indonesia
Requirements
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in cocoa agronomy and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
- Strong technical knowledge of cocoa production, including yield improvement, pest and disease management, and rehabilitation practices
- Experience in designing and implementing agronomy-focused interventions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Fluency in English and Indonesian languages
Nice to Have
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in agronomy, agriculture, or related field
- Experience working with smallholder farmers in Indonesia
- Knowledge of local cocoa production systems and market trends
- Experience with monitoring and evaluation of agricultural projects
- Familiarity with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification schemes

What makes you a great fit
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Crop Science, or a related field
- 4+ years of professional experience in cocoa agronomy, farmer training, or agricultural development programs
- Strong knowledge of cocoa GAP and smallholder farming systems in Indonesia (Sulawesi experience preferred)
- Experience supporting agronomy monitoring, data collection, and/or questionnaire development
- Strong communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and working proficiency in English
- Willingness to travel regularly to rural cocoa-growing regions and work closely with field teams
