ISS Executive Director

• Lead ISS' funding strategy, cultivating and managing high-level relationships with donors, partners, governments, multilateral institutions and civil society
• Ensure ISS maintains a strong, credible and visible continental and global profile as the leading voice on human security in Africa
• Lead the implementation of the ISS 2026–2030 strategy while working closely with the Board of Trustees to define priorities for the next strategic cycle
• Ensure effective implementation of organisational plans, policies and donor agreements
• Drive organisational performance and innovation in response to external and internal challenges

This role shapes continental and global policy debates, steers a highly respected pan-African institution, and ensures that cutting-edge research translates into policies and practices that improve human security in Africa.

• Proven track record in fundraising, developing proposals and managing donor relationships with governments, multilateral institutions and foundations
• Extensive experience managing projects and teams involved in qualitative and quantitative research, technical assistance and training within a Results-Based Management framework
• Demonstrated success leading diverse, multi-location teams and managing organisational governance
• Established network of stakeholders across Africa and internationally, with experience engaging at high-level policy forums
• Comprehensive financial management experience including budgets, multi-currency operations, donor reporting and host country agreements
• Exceptional English language skills (written and verbal); French language skills highly desirable
• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals or other relevant research or analytical outputs

A competitive salary and benefits are offered. The appointment is for a five-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.
