About
International Consultant – Technical Advisor, Trafficking in Persons Research and Capacity-Strengthening in Pakistan
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise to design and quality-assure a research study on protection risks linked to human mobility, including developing research framework, methodology, and data collection tools
- Conduct in-depth literature review of existing research and best practices in global trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants research
- Develop practical tools and guidance materials on counter-trafficking and migrant protection, including SOPs, referral protocols, and checklists for frontline actors
- Design and deliver capacity-building activities (training modules, orientation sessions) for IOM staff and partners on topics such as identification of trafficking risks and ethical data collection
Requirements
- Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. social sciences, law, international relations, public health)
- At least 8 years of professional experience in a relevant field (e.g. research, policy, programming, capacity-building)
- Proven expertise in research design, methodology, and data collection
- Strong understanding of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants research and policy
- Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills
- Ability to work in a team and build partnerships with stakeholders
- Fluency in English and proficiency in Urdu (written and spoken) is required
Nice to Have
- Experience working in Pakistan or the region
- Familiarity with IOM's work and policies
- Knowledge of local languages (e.g. Pashto, Sindhi)

Required qualifications:
- Advanced university degree (Master's or higher) in Social Sciences, Migration Studies, International Development, Law, Human Rights, or related field with focus on protection or migration issues
- 7-10 years of professional experience in research and analysis within migration, humanitarian protection, human rights or related areas, with expertise on trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants in Pakistan
- Proven expertise in research design and qualitative & quantitative data analysis, with familiarity with participatory research methods and protection assessments
- Strong knowledge of international protection frameworks and best practices, including UN/IOM protection policies and Palermo Protocols on TIP and SOM
