Application Guide
How to Apply for Intern, Data Analyst (Winter / Spring)
at EVgo
🏢 About EVgo
EVgo is a leader in America's EV charging infrastructure with a mission to accelerate electric vehicle adoption through a reliable, fast-charging network accessible to all. Working here means contributing directly to sustainable transportation solutions during a critical industry growth phase, with the unique opportunity to analyze real-world data from thousands of charging stations nationwide.
About This Role
This internship involves transforming raw charging station data into actionable insights through SQL/Python scripting, visualization creation, and troubleshooting technical issues in EVgo's data systems. You'll directly impact operational efficiency and customer experience by helping identify charging patterns, equipment performance issues, and network optimization opportunities.
💡 A Day in the Life
You might start by checking automated data quality alerts from charging stations, then use SQL to combine usage data with maintenance logs to identify patterns. After lunch, you'd create visualizations in Python/Tableau showing regional charging demand, then collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot an anomaly in station performance data.
🚀 Application Tools
🎯 Who EVgo Is Looking For
- Engineering or Data Science student with hands-on SQL/Python experience for data assembly from multiple sources
- Demonstrates practical application of linear regression and categorical models in past projects (not just coursework)
- Self-starter who can independently explore charging station datasets but proactively seeks guidance on EV-specific metrics
- Shows genuine interest in sustainable transportation through projects, coursework, or extracurricular activities
📝 Tips for Applying to EVgo
Include a GitHub link or portfolio with SQL/Python scripts that demonstrate data wrangling from multiple sources
Reference EVgo's specific charging networks (like their partnership with GM or Tesla compatibility) in your application
Highlight any experience with time-series data or IoT/sensor data similar to charging station telemetry
Mention familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI specifically for operational dashboards
Describe a project where you identified and solved a technical problem using data analysis (aligns with their troubleshooting responsibility)
✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
['Specific examples of data wrangling projects where you combined disparate data sources', 'How your engineering/data science background prepares you to understand EV charging infrastructure data', 'Demonstrated ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance (provide concrete example)', "Why EVgo's mission to accelerate EV adoption resonates with your career goals"]
Generate Cover Letter →🔍 Research Before Applying
To stand out, make sure you've researched:
- → EVgo's partnerships with automakers (GM, Tesla compatibility) and retailers
- → Their different charging speeds (50kW, 100kW, 350kW) and how this might affect data patterns
- → Recent press releases about network expansion or new technology implementations
- → The challenges of EV charging infrastructure (grid demand, reliability, user experience)
💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics
Based on this role, you may be asked about:
⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Generic data analysis experience without examples of working with real-world, messy datasets
- No demonstrated interest in sustainability or electric vehicles
- Overemphasis on machine learning without showing foundational data wrangling and visualization skills
