Inclusive Climate Action, Senior Manager, Africa

Core responsibilities:

• Support cities in the African Region in implementing key priority adaptation actions from their Climate Action Plans, helping identify partnerships and embed equity and inclusivity in policies and programmes.
• Provide technical support on climate risk assessments, vulnerability analyses, and adaptation planning to inform evidence-based adaptation actions with strong socio-economic components.
• Coordinate C40-supported adaptation activities and equity/inclusivity consultancies, ensuring alignment with global approaches and timely delivery.
• Lead in developing strategic partnerships between cities, local governments, civil society, and the private sector to promote collaboration and amplify adaptation efforts.

This role creates positive change by supporting African cities in developing and delivering inclusive climate policies that drive mitigation and adaptation, addressing structural inequalities and delivering equitable impacts that support climate justice while advocating for global and national change to achieve a just transition.

Required qualifications:

• Proven experience working with municipal administrations in Africa on climate action plans or climate adaptation policies.
• Strong background in climate adaptation and resilience for local governments with thorough understanding of African climate context and just transition debates.
• Demonstrated experience in translating technical climate data into policy or investment decisions through risk assessments, vulnerability assessments, and resource mobilisation.
• Excellent project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills with ability to convene diverse stakeholders including city leaders, community organisations, and private sector actors.

Salary: KSH 6,302,899 gross per annum (Grade 3). C40 operates on a spot salary model where employees are paid the same salary according to their grade and location to maintain equity and fairness. The position is a fixed-term contract until 30th June 2029.
