Head of External Affairs

Core responsibilities:

• Lead Vaulted's policy advocacy, lobbying, and government affairs strategy, representing the company's interests to policymakers, regulatory agencies, and other public stakeholders
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key government, legislative, and regulatory partners (including federal and state EPA)
• Develop long-term strategies for navigating the political and regulatory landscape while identifying and mitigating regulatory and reputational risks
• Serve as Vaulted's primary external voice, shaping messaging and materials that support site development, permitting, and community engagement
• Oversee community engagement strategies and activities at existing and new sites
• Manage, lead and grow the External Affairs team to meet organizational needs and support Vaulted's long-term objectives

This role directly contributes to mitigating and eventually reversing the worst impacts of climate change by securing Vaulted's ability to operate facilities that permanently remove carbon from the atmosphere through safe waste management technology.

Required skills, experience, and qualifications:

• 10+ years of relevant experience across regulatory affairs, government relations, permitting, community engagement, or communications
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Regulatory Affairs, Law, or related field
• Experience obtaining regulatory approvals and building government and community support for physical site development
• Familiarity working with permitting agencies, regulators, and local officials to advance project readiness
• Experience designing and leading community engagement strategies
• Background that blends regulatory, government relations, stakeholder engagement, and communications
• Experience in a fast-moving or fast-growing environment
• Clear communicator who can translate complex regulatory and political considerations for diverse audiences
• Strong external relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
• Effective spokesperson with strong writing and messaging instincts
• Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable navigating ambiguity
