How to Apply for Head of Engineering
at Playlab
๐ข About Playlab
Playlab is a tech non-profit that empowers educators and students to become critical consumers and creators of AI through open-source tools and professional development. With over 60,000 educators already publishing apps, the organization is at the forefront of equitable AI in education, making it a mission-driven place where engineering directly impacts learning.
About This Role
As Head of Engineering, you'll lead and grow the platform, infrastructure, and product engineering team, acting as a hands-on leader who accelerates the team's output. Your impact comes from unblocking engineers, guiding architectural decisions, and building a culture that enables fast, high-quality delivery on hard problems in AI education.
๐ก A Day in the Life
Your day might start with a standup to unblock engineers, followed by a deep-dive architecture review with the team. After lunch, you could have 1:1s coaching individual engineers on their growth, then spend the afternoon reviewing a key infrastructure decision or collaborating on product strategy. The day ends with async contributions to the open-source community or a planning session for the next sprint.
